Mrs Hinch is a cleaning influencer with over four million Instagram followers. She rose to fame by posting tidying and cleaning tips and tricks on social media.

Now, fans of Mrs Hinch have created their own social media pages in her honour.

On one such Facebook page, over 100,000 members share cleaning advice with one another.

Yesterday, one member wanted to know how to clean her washing machine because her clothes had started to smell funny coming out of the appliance.

They said: “My washing machine isn’t getting my clothes smelling fresh and they have that musty smell.

“I’ve tried different Lenors but even with the unstoppables I can’t smell it.

“They are clean but don’t smell right.

“The machine is just over a year old and I’ve tried all the typical cleaners which I’ve normally done weekly or biweekly as I’ve got dogs – washing machine cleaner, bicarbonate and vinegar, bleach (only once as I know it’s not good for the seals), Zoflora or Fabulosa.

“They all help for one or two washes then it smells again. And I’ve emptied the filter thing. Does anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks!”

Fortunately, other Mrs Hinch fans had a plethora of answers at the ready.

Some cleaning enthusiasts recommended using dishwasher tablets in the washing machine’s drawer.

One person said: “I always use dish water tablets, two on the highest temperature came up smelling fresh and a gleaming drum.”

Another person added: “I used dishwasher tablets – four straight in the drum, on a boil wash, empty washer. A bit of Fabulosa machine cleaner in the drawer. Leave door open when not in use.”

Other Mrs Hinch fans recommended using natural products, such as baking soda and vinegar.

One person simply said: “White vinegar in every wash.”

Another cleaning enthusiast wrote: “Put a couple of spoons of baking soda with powder, use half softener and half white vinegar.”

One person commented: “A washing machine engineer told me to use a cup of soda crystals in the drum on a hot wash once a month to clean.”

Most Mrs Hinch fans advised cleaning your washing machine often for best results.

One person wrote: “Clean your machine once a month.”

Other products cleaning enthusiasts used included Persil Bio liquid or washing up powder.

One person said: “I use powder and a scoop of soda crystals direct in the drum.

“If using softener only use the recommended dose. Too much is a waste and just clogs the fibres in your clothes.

“Use long wash cycles instead of short ones, your clothes will definitely smell better.

“Always leave the door and drawer open to air dry when your machine is not in use. Hope that helps.”

Another person commented: “I find putting the powder directly into the drum helps a lot. Twirl it about a bit. I never use pods. They can get tangled in your clothes and I find them more expensive than powder as I often do a small wash.”
